Lamplighter Awards
Each year the Longview ISD Foundation sponsors the Lamplighter Awards Banquet, an event that gives a student from each Longview ISD campus an opportunity to honor an educator who has influenced the student’s life. The Foundation hosted the 2008 Lamplighter Awards Banquet on Thursday, April 10, at Pinecrest Country Club with 428 guests attending.
Students at designated grades across the district participated in an essay contest sponsored by the Longview ISD Foundation. Prompted by the children’s book, My Great-Aunt Arizona, by Gloria Houston, students’ essays paid tribute to special LISD educators and staff.
Heartwarming and inspirational, the annual event once again reminded all who attended that educators inspire, guide, counsel and love their students every day and that students truly do appreciate their teachers and campus staff members. Students enjoyed the opportunity to personally say thank you to their special educators, and the honorees appreciated the students’ praise for their hard work and commitment.
The Longview ISD Foundation looks forward to the ninth annual Lamplighter Awards Banquet to be held Thursday, April 16th, 2009.
