Foundation Funds 2010 Grants-to-Teachers Program
Grants Giveaway Brings Smiles Across Longview ISD
On Tuesday, March 2, and Monday, March 8, the Longview ISD Foundation, Inc. visited Longview ISD campuses to announce the recipients of the 2010 Grants-to-Teachers Program. The Foundation’s Grants Giveaway Group, members of the Foundation’s Grants and Scholarships Committee, surprised teachers, counselors, librarians and nurses in their classrooms to give them the good news that the grant proposals they submitted in January have been funded. Grant winners received funding from the Longview ISD Foundation ranging from $100 to $2000 for innovative classroom projects and programs that will enhance the quality of education for all students in Longview ISD.
This year, the fifteenth anniversary of the Grants-to-Teachers Program, $72,046.25 was requested through 50 grant applications. The Foundation funded 19 grants totaling $27,946.83. The Foundation funded 12 elementary grants for a total of $15,736.47 and 7 secondary grants for a total of $12,210.36. Since the beginning of the Grants-to-Teachers Program in 1996, the Foundation has funded 460 grants totaling $384,467.74. These grants have enhanced Longview ISD’s academic programs as well as music, art, technology, counseling and guidance, health and physical education, and character education programs.
