Foundation Funds Campus Initiative Grant Program
J. L. Everhart Magnet Academy of Cultural Studies Receives 2010 Campus Initiative Grant
On Monday, March 8, 2010, the Longview ISD Foundation, Inc. visited J. L. Everhart Magnet Academy of Cultural Studies to announce the recipient of the Foundation’s 2010 Campus Initiative Grant.
Working with campus educators, Dr. Yvonne Johnson, Everhart principal, applied for and received funding for an initiative unique to her individual campus. The initiative funded complements and aligns with the school’s Campus Improvement Plan and the District Improvement Plan.
The Foundation’s Grants Giveaway Group, members of the Foundation’s Grants and Scholarships Committee, surprised Dr. Yvonne Johnson, principal, to announce that her grant titled J. L. Everhart Fitness Lab had received funding. This grant allows J. L. Everhart to implement a fitness lab that is designed to work with the child's cardiovascular and muscular systems. This grant is directly tied to the Physical Fitness Assessment Initiative standards adopted by the State of Texas in 2007. The Fitness Lab will be equipped with adolescent size fitness equipment that targets the three factors outlined in Texas Education Code 38.102, Adoption of Assessment Instrument, that are essential to overall health and function: aerobic capacity; body composition; and muscular strength, endurance and flexibility. The implementation of a Fitness Lab will allow Everhart's students to improve the physical fitness of its students, enable its students to meet state goals outlined in the FitnessGram, and model behaviors necessary for a lifetime of wellness. In addition to enhancing student fitness, the Fitness Lab will provide opportunities for teachers and students to integrate math, reading, writing, and science as outlined in J. L. Everhart's campus plan.
The Longview ISD Foundation, Inc. is proud to provide $5,000.00 in additional funding through this Campus Initiative Grant to maximize educational opportunity in Longview ISD.
Since 2008, the Longview ISD Foundation, Inc. has funded nine campus grants for a total of $19,146.00.
