During Texas Public Schools Week, the Longview ISD Foundation, Inc.'s Grants and Scholarships Committee's Program Giveaway visited Longview ISD campuses to surprise the 2008 Grants-to-Teachers Program recipients and present them with grant certificates and ribbons.

Mary Price, Brian Kasper, Judson Middle School principal, and Kris Vincent congratulated Annie Walker, keyboard and career investigation teacher, for receiving funding for her grant titled "Guaranteeing Our Students’ Future" for a total of $908.97.
Jan Johnson, seventh grade science teacher at Judson Middle School, was joined by her students when she learned that she received funding for four grants. Through grants titled "Newton’s Toy Box," "Marvelous Machines," "Varying Versatiles," and "Rock on to TAKS," Mrs. Johnson received a total of $1,524.30 in funding through the 2008 Grants-to-Teachers Program.
Barbara Briley, instructional specialist (second from right), collaborated with Mozelle Johnston Elementary School’s principal, Sarah Sheppard, on a Campus Initiative Grant for an online math lab to offer new methods of math instruction to third through fifth graders. Jeanne Mann, Mary Price and Kris Vincent congratulated her on being one of three recipients of the new Campus Initiative Grant. Johnston Elementary School received $1,598.00 through this grant.
Trista Waalwyk, third grade teacher at Johnston Elementary School, received a grant from Jeanne Mann, Mary Price and Kris Vincent for a Seeing and Sharing Learn Center totaling $1,759.00.
Dinah Morgan, third grade teacher at Johnston Elementary School, received funds to replace students’ dry erase boards, a tool they use daily.
Karen Wilson, physical education teacher at Mozelle Johnston Elementary School and the school’s 2008 Lamplighter Award honoree, received two grants. Through one grant, Ms. Wilson is continuing to teach students chess through the use of life-size chess pieces, and through the other grant she, along with PE teachers at Hudson Elementary School, South Ward Elementary School, and Valley View Elementary School, is teaching students to play golf. Golf pros at Alpine Golf Course are donating their time to work with the teachers and students to teach them golf, a game they can play throughout their lifetime.
Jeanne Mann, Kay Ray, and Kris Vincent awarded a grant to Ruthie Romero, first grader teacher at Doris McQueen Primary School, for "Fitness Frenzy" to assist with health and physical education.
Susan Kuhlman, second from left, won a grant titled “Sharing 3D through Technology in Science” totaling $1,654.00 to enhance science education for Bramlette’s third through fifth grade students. Joining Susan are Jeanne Mann and Kris Vincent, co-chairs of the Grants-to-Teachers Program, and Vernessa Gentry, principal.
Emily Hill, Linda Hamilton, and Winifred Jackson at Bramlette Elementary School received a grant from Jeanne Mann to purchase a digital camera to improve technology instruction for second graders. A very happy student celebrates in the background.
Jeanne Mann, Grants-to-Teachers Program co-chair, presented a grant to Sophia Brewer and Laini Scarborough at Bramlette Elementary School. They received $733.41 for a grant for science instruction for pre-kindergarten students.
Mary Price, Karen Bonds, Ware Elementary School principal, and Jeanne Mann congratulated Shelley George, special education teacher, for winning two grants through the 2008 Grants-to-Teachers Program.
Sharon Collins, Cynthia Stratton, Kathy Kendricks, and Lee Stanton at McClure Magnet School of International Studies celebrated when they learned that the Longview ISD Foundation funded their grant titled “Jeopardy” for use in language arts, science and social studies instruction.
Jeanne Mann, Mary Price and Kris Vincent awarded McClure Magnet School for International Studies’ physical education teacher, Annette Portley (second from right) a grant for “Dancing with the Stars” for $1,694.99. Cynthia Wise, McClure’s principal, joined the Foundation for the celebration.
Debbie Wesson, right, physical education teacher at South Ward Elementary School, received $1,982.38 in funding from the Longview ISD Foundation for “Success in Golf—Round 2” from Foundation board members Sarah Monsour, Mary Darby and Barbie Pliler. Mrs. Wesson collaborated with physical education teachers Karen Wilson, Johnston Elementary School, Bonnie Floyd, Hudson Elementary School, and Amy Anderson, Valley View Elementary School, to write a grant that will continue a golf program for elementary school students.
Jackie Burnett, principal of G. K. Foster Montessori Magnet School, received the first annual Campus Initiative Grant on Grants Giveaway Day, March 11, 2008, from Foundation board members Sarah Monsour, Kris Vincent, Mary Darby, Barbie Pliler, Jeanne Mann, and Mary Price. Ms. Burnett and Sharon Rettig, counselor, collaborated on the campus grant titled “Science Tools for Discovery” and received $2,529.00 from the Longview ISD Foundation for science Big Books and materials for lab experiments for students.

Jan Johnson, Patricia Davis, Dianne Viosin, Bill Russell and Terry Wheless collaborated with Mrs. Downing on two grants titled "Newton’s Toy Box" and "Rock on to TAKS".
South Ward Elementary School students are proud of their music teacher, Robert Holland, for receiving $1,847.85 in funding for his grant, "D.R.U.M" to enhance music education for kindergarten through fifth grade students.
Brian Kasper, Judson Middle School principal, joined Jenny Kauffman, speech therapist teacher, who received a grant titled "Crunching on Comprehension." She will use materials purchased with the grant for her students in grades 6 through 8.
Mary Price and Kris Vincent congratulated Kathy Daniels, Pat Webber and Barbara Chaffin, Judson Middle School language arts teachers, for winning a grant to purchase presenter mice for students to use on technology projects.
Jeanne Mann, Kris Vincent and Kay Ray congratulated Debbie Conrad (second from left) for receiving $1,066.99 for her grant titled “No More Teach and Switch and Teach and Switch Back. Mrs. Conrad teaches accounting and BCIS I, grades 9-12, at Longview High School.
At Forest Park Magnet School of Global Studies, Latitia Wilson, instructional technology specialist, and Margo Macauley, art teacher, received $1,838.30 for their grant "The Artist’s Studio of the 21st Century."
Jeff Hull, Longview High School art teacher, showed the Grants Giveaway group his students’ artwork to be sold in the annual LHS Art Auction. Mr. Hull received $ 1,531.34 to purchase a Miller Spectrum 375 Plasma Cutter for use by his Pre-Advanced Placement and Advanced Placement Sculpture students.
Dawn Mohler’s eighth grade science students congratulated her for winning a grant through the 2008 Grants-to-Teachers Program. Mrs. Mohler collaborated with her fellow science teachers, Keysha Berry, D. C. Ward, Charles Taylor, Claire Hines, Mary Hughey and Paul Richards, and Carmen Hohlt, instructional technology specialist, on the grant "Where’s the Evidence?" for use by students in grades six through eight. The grant totaled $1,478.56.
Brian Kasper, Judson Middle School principal, joined Kris Vincent and Jeanne Mann as they awarded a grant for $1,838.30 to Jo Hoffman and Terry Wheless. They will use the funds to purchase Wascom Digital Pens for use by students in all subjects in grades six through eight.
Jeanne Mann and Kris Vincent announced to Amy Anderson, Valley View Elementary School physical education teacher, that she received funding for “Success in Golf—Round 2.” Through this grant, fifth graders at Valley View Elementary School, Hudson PEP Elementary School, Johnston Elementary School and South Ward Elementary School will receive golf lessons and enjoy a trip to Alpine Golf Course to play six holes of golf. This is the second part of a previously funded grant.
Jeanne Mann and Mary Price awarded a grant to Diana Key, science teacher at Longview High School, for the grant "Aim for the Stars." Mrs. Key, along with Susan Merrill, Jennifer Smith, Brad Sheek, and Leah Overman, received $1,848.00 for materials to benefit the astronomy class for seniors at Longview High School and the LHS Science Club.
Hudson Elementary School students were happy to learn from Sarah Monsour, Mary Darby and Barbie Pliler that they too will participate in golf lessons because their PE teacher, Bonnie Floyd, received a grant from the Longview ISD Foundation’s Grants-to-Teachers Program.
Kris Vincent, Jeanne Mann and Mary Price are proud of Lori Sustaita, English as a Second Language teacher at Longview High School, for receiving $2,000.00 to purchase Interwrite School Pads for use in her classroom.
